A magnesium tablet built from four forms: citrate, glycinate, oxide and malate. Each form has a different elemental content and a different tablet behaviour, so the formula is written on elemental magnesium and on the contribution of each salt, not on the total salt weight.
The default tablet is film-coated, with a declared elemental magnesium figure per tablet. The ratio of the four forms is fixed by the buyer; changing it changes the tablet weight and the label, so it is agreed before compression.
| Format | Size | Shell / coating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tablet | 1000 mg (common) | Film-coated; MCC, stearic acid, croscarmellose | Daily retail bottle |
| Tablet | Custom weight | Film-coated; MCC, stearic acid, croscarmellose | Smaller tablet or higher elemental load |
| Bulk blend | 25 kg | Food-grade liner | Contract tableting and blending |
The four magnesium forms behave differently in a tablet. Magnesium oxide is dense and high in elemental magnesium; magnesium glycinate is bulky and low in elemental content; citrate and malate are intermediate. The ratio is therefore a compromise between elemental load, tablet size and compression behaviour.
The label should state elemental magnesium, not the sum of the salts. If the formula carries an overage, it is written into the specification and reflected in the tablet weight. A film coat helps with the slightly chalky taste and with moisture, but it adds a weight gain that must be included in the tablet weight.
Elemental magnesium is assayed by ICP-OES; tablet weight, hardness, friability and disintegration are tested per batch. Moisture and microbiology are tested to the destination market's limits. The blend is checked for uniformity before compression.
Send the elemental magnesium target, the ratio of the four forms, the tablet weight, the coating and the market. The most common mistake is to quote the total salt weight instead of the elemental figure; the second is to fix the tablet weight before the ratio of forms is agreed.
The magnesium blend is sold here as a food ingredient. No disease or therapeutic claims are made or implied. The brand owner is responsible for the label, the elemental claim and the permitted statements in the destination market.
