S-adenosyl-L-methionine, supplied as a salt and compressed into an enteric-coated tablet. SAMe is moisture-sensitive and degrades readily at the tablet surface, so the enteric coat and the desiccant packaging are part of the specification, not an afterthought.
The salt form, the assay method and the moisture limit are fixed before the batch; the COA records the batch result and the coating weight. A non-enteric tablet is not offered for this active.

SAMe is one of the more demanding actives in this range. It is hygroscopic and hydrolyses at the tablet surface; an unprotected tablet can lose assay before the end of shelf life. The enteric coat protects the active from gastric acid and from moisture, and the bottle carries a desiccant. The salt form matters: different salts have different molecular weights and different stability profiles.
The coating is not a generic film. An enteric polymer has to be applied at a specified weight gain and tested for acid resistance; a coat that dissolves in the stomach is not an enteric coat. The tablet core also has to be hard enough to survive the coating pan without chipping.
SAMe is assayed by HPLC; the salt form is verified; moisture is tested by Karl Fischer or loss on drying. The enteric coat is checked for weight gain and acid resistance, and the tablet for weight, hardness and disintegration. Microbiology is tested to the destination market's limits.
